Half-Life: Opposing Force is an expansion developed by Gearbox of Valve's famed First-Person shooter, Half-Life. This was the first expansion in a set of expansions released from Half-Life and was announced in April 1999. Gearbox was chosen to create this expansion because Valve needed to focus on their future projects.

Half-Life Opposing Force takes place in the same time period as Half-Life, but instead you take the role as a HECU soldier, which were common enemies in Half-Life. You play as Adrian Shepard, a Corporal, who is sent in with an army of other soldiers to wipe out Black Mesa after the Resonance Cascade which as caused numerous hostile aliens from Xen to arrive.
