Half-Life: Blue Shift is the second stand-alone expansion pack for Half-Life. The first expansion is titled Half-Life: Opposing Force. The game was developed by Gearbox Software and released on June 12, 2001.
In Half-Life: Blue Shift, you play as Barney Calhoun, a Black Mesa security guard, who also makes appearances in Half-Life 2. During the resonance cascade, Barny is in a plummeting elevator when he blacks out. Barny reawakens at the bottom of the shaft and tries to fight his way through the underground passages of Black Mesa. He soon rescues scientists who were trapped in railway cars. They tell him that Marines are coming to eliminate all Black Mesa personnel to cover up the extradimensional research. The scientists explain that the only way to escape is to use a prototype teleporter in the facility that will take them to one of the exits of Black Mesa. However, in order to activate the teleporter, Barny must travel to an old research camp on Xen and activate a triangulation device. Then on his return, he must replace the batteries of the teleporter and fight off Marines while the scientists teleport, and then Barny makes his escape.
