Aperture Science Corporation hosts the Test Chambers in the Portal universe. They are the creators of the Portal Gun and GLaDOS and a less successful rival of the Black Mesa corporation of Half-Life Fame.

During your run through Test Chamber 19 in Portal you come across what appear to be some business presentation slides from a projector detailing how Black Mesa appears to command a much larger share of DOD ( Department of Defense ) funding than Aperture Science in spite of the latter's much large volume of proposals.
